I’m going to ask one more time… Does anyone here have anything that they
would like to say?
Silence. Chairs creaking. Ambient room sound, for an uncomfortably long
time.
Excuse me, Miss Santos?
(surprised) Ummm…yes, Kate, do….you want to say something?
Yes!
(gasps of surprise, murmurs from the kids in the room)
I want to say that I’m against bullying and I think that everyone here should
say it too. And we should DO something against bullying.
I just read online about the kids in another school who started a really cool
project called KAB – that’s Kids Against Bullies.
Kate is right. KAB is a super project! Every student at their school knows that
if he or she has a problem with a bully, he or she can talk to the KABS, and
they will help solve it.
That's right Jack. Their school is safer AND friendlier, thanks to the KABS.
Excuse me, Amy?
Yes, Josh. Go ahead.
What if a kid is, well, embarrassed? I mean, embarrassed to tell anybody
about the bullying?
That’s a good question, Josh. And the KABS had a really good idea. They put a
box on the wall outside the teacher’s lounge. Kate?
Right! They call it the Bully Box, and that’s where kids can put notes about
bullying without writing their names. The KABS read the notes and take care
of the problem.
I know! Can I say something? Let’s do the same thing, only let’s call it COOL –
SLASH – UNCOOL!
(confused reactions from other kids)
