BEFORE YOU READ UNIT 1
Ask students to look at page 1, the cover page of this unit.
Discuss the meaning of the title of the unit.
Ask:
What do you think the unit will be about? (It will probably be about thieves and bikes:
Someone is stealing bicycles.)
Explain that titles help you predict what is to come in the unit.
Introduce the characters to the students.
Have the students turn to page 1 of their book and look at the characters.
Ask:
Curriculum:
Whose name begins with the soound /K/?
Is Kate a boy or a girl?
What is the color of Kate's hair?
AI: Students will locate relevant
information for specific purposes.
Now review all the names, making sure all the students can pronounce the names and they know
who everyone is.
NOTE: The characters are important in the story, so it’s important that the students know who’s
who.
