Ask:
Why does Amy say “Look at all these kids”? (she’s surprised)
What are the kids doing outside the Teachers' Lounge? (they are waiting)
Describe what the kids are doing. (some are crying, others are holding pieces of paper, they
look confused, they look upset)
Who calls Amy and Jack? (Miss Santos)
Why does she call them? (she needs help)
Where do all the kids have to go? (to room 101)
Why do you think they all have to go to room 101? (to listen to Jack and Amy’s talk)
How are Jack and Amy connected to what’s going on in the school? (accept logical guesses)

Ask:
Why doesn’t Miss Santos let Kate explain? (she says she knows what’s going on)
Where are Kate and Ann going? (to room 101)
What does Miss Santos want from Jack? (more copies of the handout)

to make a whole new word with a different meaning – a page we distribute usually in a class or
formal gathering

Ask:
What help does Miss Santos need? (to help her get the students to room 101 and she needs
more handouts)
What do you think is on that handout? (accept logical guesses)
Why do you think Kate was so happy to get to room 101? (accept logical answers)
