If you want to be included on this trip, please sign up in the school office during the lunch break.
Finally, today at three o’clock, our friends Jack and Amy will be back with a special after-school
meeting in Room 101. All students are welcome to join.
Thank you all, and let's have a Great day!
3. Let’s Talk! (page 168)
Ask:
What kind of recording did we just listen to? (an announcement)
What do announcements do? (They tell us what’s going on, what’s new, etc.)
Where else can we hear announcements? This one was in school. (Encourage things like
radio, television, synagogue, mosque, church, community center.)
HOTS— Is there an announcement you hear often? Tell us about it. (Accept all logical
examples of announcements e.g. "save water", "put on your seat belts".)

four students per group.
Explain the situation and what they have to do.
Say:
A terrible fire burned down the homes of many families.
Your class wants to help.
In groups, you will write an announcement for something that your group wants the class to
do to help these families.
Your announcement should include:
o Your names
o A few words about what happened
o What you are going to do to help
o When, where and how other kids can help, too
o A ‘thank you’ to your friends for listening and helping
When you have finished, each group will present the announcement to the class.
Then the class will vote and decide which of the announcements were best and which one
they think they would do in such a situation.
Don’t forget to use the checklist to make sure you have done all you are supposed to.
For weaker students: If needed, for weaker kids, provide an example:
