Robert:
Hi! My name is Robert, and I’m reporting from the city of Seaside about something
amazing!
Right now I’m looking at 12 dolphins, 14 sea turtles and an octopus …and these
animals are all here, on the beach in Seaside!
You won’t find animals like these anywhere else in the world! Why? Because they
are made of GARBAGE!
Here’s my friend Ella from the Green Team. Ella, tell us more about these animals!
Ella:
Hi, Robert. That’s right! All of these animals are made of garbage; they are made
from garbage that the students from Seaside School picked up off the beach!
It took the kids three days to make this big work of art! There are more than 5,000
pieces of garbage in it!
Robert:
Wow, Ella! Look at this dolphin. It is made of old T-shirts, hats and sandals. Are these
things that people left on the beach?
Ella:
Sure! Every day we have thousands of visitors, and they don’t always clean up after
themselves! Our beach was polluted with toys, plastic plates, cups, bags, bottles —
all kinds of garbage.
Look at this turtle — it’s made from beach balls and an old umbrella!
Robert:
Wow! This is amazing! Just a moment, there’s a lady walking this way. Excuse me,
ma’am? What do you think of this project?
Older Lady
Beachgoer:
It’s a great way to recycle garbage! It also makes people think about how we
need to clean up our beach!
Robert
Thank you for talking to us! Oh, here’s a boy wearing a Seaside School T-shirt…
(to someone Hi there, I’m Robert. Why did you and your friends do this project?
new)
Boy from
Seaside
School:
We wanted to clean up our beach, and we wanted to recycle what we found. But
most important, we want everyone to remember that garbage is dangerous for our
animals. WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR WORLD — BEFORE IT CHANGES US!
