Stage 1: Learn to be an expert!
In your group, read the information about your animal and complete the column in the
jigsaw for that animal. Now each member in your group is an expert on your animal!
Stage 2: Teach your friends!
Now form new groups.
Each new group has at least ONE expert on each animal.
Each expert will teach the others about his or her animal.
Complete all the columns in the table together.
Stage 3: Fill in your Detective’s Notebook!
Use the answers in the table to complete page 133 in your Detective’s Notebook.
Hand out the charts and divide the class into expert groups, telling each group which animal to
focus on.
Each group reads the passage on their animal and fills in the corresponding column.
Make sure the groups are working properly and everyone is participating.
It’s vital that ALL the students write everything down so they can share with others.
HOTS – Compare and Contrast: Once the groups have completed their column ask each group to
report their answers to the class. Copy the table onto the board in fill in their answers.
