Purdue alumni privately giving back to the
University. The fountain was restored and
rededicated during Gala Week in 1996 with
funds donated by the Class of 1946 in honor
of its 50th anniversary.
In the 1980s and ‘90s, Memorial Fountain
was stocked with goldfish and catfish; the fish
were placed in the fountain in late spring and
removed in the fall. During the winter months,
they were kept in tanks maintained by the
Department of Animal Sciences. At times, the
fountain could be found brimming with other
varieties of fish—including piranha, bluegill,
crappie, and carp—thanks to contributions
from campus pranksters.
