It was Freshman First Nighter. My buddies and I had planned
to meet up at the billiard room. When I found them, they were
in the middle of a game, so I gravitated to the next table where
there was a group of women playing and offered my assistance.
When we finished our game, I found that my buddies had left,
so I escorted the ladies upstairs to the dance. After dancing
for a while with Maria, we turned to find that she had also lost
her crew. I offered to walk her back to her dorm, and we took
a detour by Slayter Hill. She became a regular dinner guest
at Cary Quad. We were married at St. Thomas Aquinas
during winter break our sophomore year and celebrate
our 46th anniversary this year. —GARY NOT TINGHAM
