A PIRATE
AND HELEN
OF TROY
Fernando Penabad (IE’09)
and Wima Stefanutti (T’11, LA’11)
He was dressed as a pirate, and I was dressed
as Helen of Troy. We met at the first Breakfast
Club of the 2008 football season, sometime
between 8 and 10 a.m. at Where Else. We’ve
been together ever since and have been
married for seven years. —WIMA STEFANUT TI
LOVE AT A
LOADING DOCK
Pamela (Smith) Klink (M’79) and Gregory Klink (M’80)
There was a dance behind the loading dock of McCutcheon Hall
during my first week on campus. It was dark, but I could still see
Pam’s bright smile that lit up the night. Did this shy country boy
have a chance with a sorority girl from the city? I don’t know how,
but it turns out I did. The memories we made at Purdue are as vivid
today as then. Walking the trails of Hort Park through the autumn
leaves. Cutting class on a balmy spring day to go to McCord Candies.
Getting stuck in a waist-high snowdrift in the blizzard of ’78 on the
soccer field hill. I thought for sure that was the end. They would
find us the next day frozen together. Somehow, we made it out.
There were pig roasts, sorority dances, football games, and latenight chats. “Borrowing” cafeteria trays to go sledding. Eating Bell’s
pastrami pizza. Gazing at each other over yogurt at Java Express
when everyone in the room just kind of faded away. That is love.
We celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary on June 7. —GREGORY KLINK
