We were paired up to do our pledge project together for Eta Kappa Nu, the
electrical engineering honorary, in our junior year. We then traded letters over
the summer and began to spend some time together the next fall. On one of
our walks, she was hit by a motorcycle, and I suddenly spent much more time
with her, helping her to manage with a cast. She studied more than I, and thus
many of our “dates” were study nights—and my grades improved! We were
married at the chapel at St. Thomas Aquinas in May of 1979. —JOSEPH MARSHALL
