Liberty’s employee volunteerism programme
“RolledwUp Sleeves” is aligned to its CSI’s strategic
objectives of promoting the development of
education in South Africa. The volunteerism
programme has made remarkable strides in
encouraging employees to be active corporate
citizens. Through the various initiatives available,
employees have managed create a huge impact
over the last year:
• More than 600 active registered employees
are on the RolledUpSleeves Forgood
volunteerism portal. The aim of the portal is
to connect employees to needy organisation
and enable a social market place where skills,
good, services and information can easily be
exchanged between employees and NGO’s.
• The Winter Shoe Drive, which sees
employees pledges R150 or more annually
towards a pair/s of school shoes for children
from previously disadvantaged communities.
The campaign has seen employees pledged
over 2000 pairs of shoes, which were donated
to 22 primary schools in 9 provinces.
• The International Nelson Mandela Day.
In an effort to help combat the surge of
hunger – Liberty uses the Nelson Mandela
Day, to rally over a 1000 employees to pack
meals to feed children from previously
disadvantaged communities. The packed
meals are distributed to Early Childhood
Development Centres (ECD’s) in townships
across South Africa. The meals have helped to
feed about 800 children for five days a week
for an entire year.
• Refurbishment of School Library. Reading
is a vital part of the learning process both
in and out of the classroom. Libraries can
improve literacy, and because literacy is core
to educational success, Liberty saw it fitting
to support this initiative and enjoy engaging
their imaginations in the world of literature. 4
school libraries were newly refurbished.
These are some of many ways Liberty and its
employees are Rolling Up Their Sleeves in order
to help change realities in the communities
we operate.
