Adapt IT’s Education Division Managing Director, Luxolo Rubushe
discusses market share, leadership, transformation and ICT.
I
t is difficult to imagine the education sector
without technology. This is more so in higher
education where there are many multi-layered
processes as a result of increasing student intake
and growing institutional requirements.
There are various complexities in higher education
which vary from managing student administration
and financial systems to human resources
and facilities management. Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) play a key role
in the development of management systems for
universities and colleges.
Among companies leading technological
advancements in SA’s education sector is Adapt IT,
a Johannesburg based ICT firm which focuses on
the Education, Energy, Manufacturing, Financial
Services, Communications and Hospitality sectors.
The company has offices in major cities in South
Africa including Durban and Cape Town. It has a
global footprint with offices in Mauritius, Botswana,
Ireland, Kenya, Australia and New Zealand and it is
poised for global success.
Transform SA spoke to Luxolo Rubushe, Adapt IT’s
Managing Director for Education. Rubushe says
the company has successfully retained a sizeable
market share in the education sector. “In South
Africa we support 17 of the 26 universities and
22 of the 50 colleges. We also have presence in
the rest of the African continent with universities

that we support in Swaziland, Botswana and
Namibia in the SADC region. We also have
presence in Rwanda and Uganda in East
Africa and Ghana in West Africa. We are
currently working on opening an office
in Nigeria. Globally, we support over
1,2 million students through
our education solutions,”
says Rubushe.

Integrator. This solution supports the entire
student lifecycle, from Enquiry to Alumni with
everything in between, including Registration,
Funds Administration, Residence, Examination
and Timetabling. “We have been able to support
some of the largest institutions in South Africa with
our solutions, and that includes the University of
Johannesburg, Tshwane University of Technology,
Nelson Mandela University and some of the big
TVET colleges such as Vhembe and King Sabata
Dalindyebo,” adds Rubushe.
Rubushe is very proud of their recent acquisition
of iCAS from StriveSoft. “Noting our dominant
position in the public higher education sector,
this acquisition has extended our footprint to the
private higher education sector. We are now able
to support small to large institutions with complex
governance and reporting requirements.”
Through their Digital Research and Innovation
unit, Adapt IT is taking full advantage of the latest
developments in Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial
Intelligence (AI), and the possibilities presented
by the introduction of 5G. Their strategic focus
is on, inter alia, Mobile, Cloud, Big Data and
eLearning Solutions.
Asked to share his views about transformation,
Rubushe did not mince his words and immediately
acknowledged the role that has been played by
the country’s transformation policies in their
success story. “As a company we are a product
of transformation. We are very proud of the road
that our country has travelled, both politically and
economically to where it is now, and we think
this is particularly important in the ICT sector,”
he added.
Rubushe believes leadership is about people, the
ability to listen and to understand. He says it is
about getting the best out of people, to develop
trust, faith and to believe in the ability of others.
