We do need people who are not going
to be scared or biased. We need people
who are going to call it what is it.
“Prior to this, Dlamini had falsely declared himself
as the long-lost grandson of Walter Sisulu. In a
Facebook post, he declared his adoration for
Hitler’s charisma and organisational skills, and
that every white person has an element of Adolf
Hitler in them – hate. This post was written while
a disciplinary action against him was taking place,”
she adds.
“So no, Dlamini is completely unfit to hold the top
position in a faction of the ANC – a faction that can
be a king-maker for the position of the president
of the ANC and therefore of the country. Dlamini is
the opposite of a good political or, for that matter,
any role model for young people. He is unfit for
any leadership purpose.” She concludes
SthembiSo Shandu
Sthembiso Shandu acknowledges that South
African youth are faced with many challenges
both politically and socially. He strongly believes
that Dlamini can represent the youth of South
Africa with his understanding of the advocacy of
politics.
“I do believe Dlamini is fit for the position on the
basis that he understands very well the advocacy
issue part of politics and speaking on behalf of
others. Part of the problem that youth are facing
in the country is unemployment, poverty and
corruption in South Africa.”
“So we do need people who are not going to be
scared or biased. We need people who are going
to call it what is it. To be able to understand
Mcebo’s potential we need to understand what
a leader is. A leader is someone who needs to
inspire, influence, and bring impact, so I do feel
and believe that Dlamini has those qualities. So
I personally believe that he can be the leader
of the ANCYL and I do wish him all the best.” he

Levy Ndou believes that examining the state of
the ANCYL should be a starting point looking at
how it deals with and articulates issues affecting
young people.
“If you look at Dlamini’s role during the FeesMustFall
campaign, although it was started by other people
within the structures of the ANC or in the PYA he
became a lone voice leading the disorganized
masses of South Africa and he was very much
articulate in terms of the resolution of the ANC
in Polokwane in relation to free higher education,”
says Ndou.
Ndou believes Dlhamini will need guidance
should he be the ANCYL president as he has
not served in any youth portfolio before but he
believes that for election purposes he is the right
candidate.
“It is very difficult to tell if Dlamini is fit for the
position because I don’t know of any of his
involvement within the structures of the ANCYL.
If he is not involved then there might be serious
challenges. Firstly, just the basic understanding
of how the ANCYL has to function looking at
the branches, the regions and the provinces. If
a person has to start by just being a president of
the youth league that might be risky. He might
be a very good leader but for him to start from
the presidency and has not served in any other
structures it becomes very difficult because they
have to sit-in for 3 years, and must be learning
how the ANCYL functions in a very short space
of time.”
“If the ANCYL wants him for the elections, which
should come in the next few months then that
becomes the most relevant person they should
go for. He is energetic, he is very much articulate
and indeed in terms of galvanizing support
amongst young people he can be best person. In
terms of understanding the happenings within
the ANC youth league that then should be left to
other leaders of the ANC like Fikile Mbalula and
others to ensure that he is able to fit-in into the
system.” said Ndou.
