n the last decade, digital information has
grown by 5 000%, yet conversely, the number
of ICT professionals is set to increase by a mere
1.5% over the next decade.
In a slow-growth, high inequality economy that is
lagging behind technologically, this presents both
an urgency and an opportunity for disadvantaged
young people in desperate need of both education
and work opportunities. Upskilling young people
in ICT skills is a training imperative.
To this end, Afrika Tikkun has partnered with an
ICT solutions company, Think Tank to establish
the Afrika Tikkun ICT Academy Talent Acceleration
Programme (TAP). Young people who participate
in the programme will be trained in Cisco and
Fortinet Networking and Security.
According to Tebogo Moleta, MD for Think Tank: “A
contributor to an organisation’s success is secure
network connectivity and with the right training
one can embark on a growing and well-paid career
in ICT.

“The ICT Academy course will earn participants a
recognised Cisco and Fortinet certification within
12 months, as well as real work experience and
potentially full time employment with a Think Tank
partner or client.”
At the launch of the ICT Academy on 20 July 2018,
Onyi Nwaneri, Group Executive of Partnerships
and Marketing at Afrika Tikkun stated: “This is the
start of great things for Afrika Tikkun and through
our partnership with Think Tank, we are moving
in the right direction to get disadvantaged young
people ready for the fourth industrial revolution by
training them for jobs that we know they will get
when they have graduated.”
Numerous studies have been completed in
recent years that support the importance of ICT
Training. The World Economic Forum’s White
Paper, ‘Realising Human Potential in the Fourth
Industrial Revolution’, states that technology and
globalisation are significantly shifting business
models in all sectors, while education and training
systems remain largely static and under-invested in.
