DORINE TOWNSEND,
THE CREATOR
You can find her in the arts and crafts market expos that are
organised by the island’s shopping malls and in the Heritage
hotels as well. She started merely a year and a half ago, but
since then it has become a true success. Dorine Townsend
struck gold when she decided to invest in the creation of
fabric bags and pouches. Elegant and trendy, her creations
appeal to fashionistas everywhere. “I was a teacher at an
elementary school but when I got sick, I had to stop working there.
I found myself at home doing nothing. As a pastime, I started
sewing and that’s how the idea of making bags and pouches came
about.” Shortly after, she registered herself at the National
Women Entrepreneur Council so she could start this beautiful
adventure that she is on now.
KATHRIN ERNEST,
THE FEARLESS ONE
© Kathrin Ernest
Originally from Germany,
Kathrin Ernest settled in
Mauritius in 2009 to work
as a kitesurfing instructor
in Bel Ombre, for a period
of three months. She fell in
love with the region, at the
same time, and met her
future spouse. In April 2010,
she moved back for good
and opened a water sports
centre and kitesurfing
school in Bel Ombre.
“Bel Ombre is known for its
preserved nature and it is
better to kitesurf here since
it is not crowded.” Kathrin
also offers customised
courses for her clients,
allowing them to learn how
to kitesurf in record time.
She also set up a team of
lifeguards to make sure that
learner and kiters stay safe.
She is particularly pleased
to have customers from
different age groups. “I am
delighted to count among
my clientele children from
8 years old to people who are
60 years old.”
