Kind, friendly and laid-back, we met Krishna Nundoo at
Heritage Golf Club, in Bel Ombre. Since 2013, he has been
sharing his love of golf with the resort’s guests, introducing
some to this noble sport and helping others to perfect their
techniques. For the PGA Assistant Professional, showing
others the beauty of his sport is definitely more than a job:
it's a real passion.
Sure enough, Krishna was only 11 when he traded his toy
clubs in for some real ones. He became a caddie at the club
where his father worked. “Every afternoon after school, I went
there to be a caddie,” he tells us. “And every Sunday, as a
caddie, I had the opportunity to play”.
An observer of nature, a caddie analyses and studies. “That
is how I learned the rules, the game formulas and the
techniques
too. The

assistant,” he says. Krishna stayed a caddie for the next
decade of his life.
STRONG-MINDED
However, with his secondary education completed, Krishna
decided to start out in the automobile world. For four years,
he worked at a dealership. The young golfer no longer had
the same opportunities to play. He decided to pack his clubs
away indefinitely. “For two years I didn’t play at all. But my
older brother, who is also a golfer, encouraged me to start
playing again,” he confides to us.

For him, golf is an escape… a moment of freedom. “When I
play, I don’t think of anything else,” he willingly admits. Before
going on the greens, a game of golf starts in your head. “You
must be strong-minded. If you make an error on a hole, you
should not worry too much about it and concentrate on
the following holes, so you don’t make another mistake,” he
says. His idol: Tiger Woods. “He has this incredible mental
strength, and when he is on a course, he is in it to win it,”
Krishna emphasises.
A HEAD FULL OF DREAMS
But beyond golf, what really takes it to the next level is the
contact with people. During our interview, which took place
at the Heritage Golf Club restaurant, a few customers didn’t
hesitate to come to greet him and sometimes share a few
words of appreciation, this bears testament to the genuine
friendships he builds with them. “Some customers send me
messages or emails, sometimes they’ll let me know the dates
of their next visit, and sometimes it is just to find out how
things are going with me,” he reveals to us.
Sponsored by the Heritage Golf Club, Krishna followed a
3-year course with the Professional Golfers Association (PGA)
of South Africa. This training course, which led to a diploma
awarded by the PGA, gives him the necessary tools to
advance his career today.

HERITAGE BEL OMBRE SETS
UP A SECOND GOLF COURSE
It’s expected to open in 2021. The
creation of the second golf course
at Heritage Golf Club will start in
July 2019. This golfing jewel, which
will grace the slopes of Bel Ombre,
was thought-out and designed by
the golfer, Louis Oosthuizen and the
renowned designer, Peter Matkovich.
In a Links style, this 18-hole course
will seamlessly blend with the lush
and unspoiled nature of this region of
the island. Designed at the foot of the
mountain, the championship course
will be situated on the edge of the
Heritage Nature Reserve, home to one
of the best-preserved ecosystems on
the island.
Its design makes use of the region’s
best natural landscape, but without
denaturing it, of course. Golfers can
take a moment, between two holes,
to admire the course’s magnificent
vista, which gives Bel Ombre its
iconic charm. Affirming itself as a
premium golfing destination, this
new jewel will be the tenth 18-hole
golf course in Mauritius.
AFRASIA BANK MAURITIUS
OPEN: HERITAGE RESORTS
HOSTS THE 2019 EDITION
From December 5 to 8, 2019, the world
of golf will set its eyes on Heritage Bel
Ombre. This year, Heritage Resorts will
host the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open
at Heritage Golf Club. The magnificent
18-hole championship course, located
in the heart of the estate, will once
again host this unique tournament,
tri-sanctioned by the European Tour,
the Sunshine Tour and the Asian Tour.
Like previous editions, the golf world’s
elite will meet at Heritage Bel Ombre
to play this prestigious tournament.
Its gain in notoriety is mostly owed to
extensive media coverage provided
by about 40 foreign television
channels, allowing almost 500 million
households around the world to follow
the achievements of the champions on
the Mauritian greens.
The 2018 edition, which was played
on Anahita Mauritius’ championship
golf course, saw the American, Kurt
Kitayama, take home the trophy. It
took him only three tournaments
on the European Tour to distinguish
himself. He won this tournament
with a 20-under-par finish, while the
Indian, Chikkarangappa S. and the
Frenchman, Matthieu Pavon, both
tied at second place with 18-underpar finishes.
