Soo-kang’s eyes followed Binnie’s. “That’s her?”
“Yes,” said Binnie quietly. “That’s her.”
Still looking at the woman sitting on the rocks, Soo-kang felt a wave
of peacefulness float around him. “I can’t see much detail from up here,”
he said, “but she looks peaceful. Sitting there. Like that.”
“K is an oasis of peace, no matter where she is or what she’s doing.”
“And?”
“And what?”
“And what else would you like to tell me about her?”
“What do you already know?” asked Binnie, leaning forward and
resting his elbows on the table.
“Not much,” admitted Soo-kang. “She’s a poet from the U.S. Her
first name is one letter—apparently, she doesn’t have a last name. She
must like K-pop, or she wouldn’t have created a website that supports
Korean singers . . . I read through a few of the posts on that site when I
first heard about it. Not the usual stuff, more like a collection of colorful
thoughts—she seems to have a way with words. That’s pretty much it.
I don’t know anything else about her.”
“Well, she does have a last name, it’s just not known to the public.
And she does, indeed, have a way with words. She’s a bestselling author—first and foremost, a poet; also, a vision-writer, self-help author
and, most recently, a novelist. She is greatly loved by many—her work
is read by people all over the world.”
“Interesting . . . Tell me more so I don’t look like an idiot when I
meet her.”
Binnie’s eyes twinkled. “You are an idiot, Soo-kang, so why not just
be yourself?”
“Yeah,” said Soo-kang, laughing off Binnie’s bluntness. “But you
once said that I was the most intelligent idiot you know, so I must be
doing something right.”
“Actually, you’re doing a lot of things right. Only the intelligent ask
so many questions. What else do you want to know?”
“Whatever you’ve got. I like being prepared. Nothing worse than
looking like a fool in front of someone who’ll probably write about it.”
