just to reach. So, I stopped and decided to listen to music instead—but
after I turned the music on, my mind just kept going with its own list.
And I’m not entirely sure, but I think my last thoughts were: I love to
love, and I love being loved just as I am.”
Binnie looked into her eyes. “The very last thoughts, my dear, are
the ones with all the power. They come from your soul, not from your
mind. And I can’t imagine your beautiful soul saying anything other
than what it said.”
She smiled. Her eyes said something to his.
Binnie’s heart danced as he hopped out of the car and loaded Temma
and K’s luggage in the back while all the men-in-black divided up and
put their luggage into the other waiting cars. The twenty who had
walked behind them through the airport gave a quick bow and drove off.
The four who had walked ahead of them remained . . . Binnie turned to
them. “Enjoy yourselves, and don’t worry about K,” he said. “She’ll be
fine. The beach house is the safest place in the world for her. I know
you’ve got a lot to do at Four Pillars, so take all the time you need—I’ll
call you if anything comes up.”
“We’ll take care of everything on our list quickly,” said one of the
men. “We’ll be on our way to the beach house as soon as we’re done—
shouldn’t take more than a few days.” Then, leaning through the open
window of Binnie’s car, he took K’s hand. “If you need me,” he whispered, “I’ll be listening, so just send out the signal.”
Halfway to the beach house by the Yellow Sea, Binnie slowed down
and looked at K. “I can’t believe I would do such a thing,” he said, “but
I left a stack of time-sensitive documents in my office and I’ve got to
go back and get them. It will only take me a minute to run in and gather
up what I need, but my office is in the center of Seoul and going back
will add quite a bit of time to our drive—maybe two or three hours,
depending on traffic. Can you handle that?”
K laughed. “You already know the answer to that question, Binnie.
