singular experiences: Yin, walking alone. Yang, walking alone. Such a
beautiful story when they finally meet and decide to walk together.
What else? . . . I always know what road I’m on. And where I’m
going. I can feel everything. And my hands, my hands . . . She looked
down at her long, slender fingers—a pearl ring on one, a thin band of
tiny diamonds on another. In her mind, a candle flickered in the distance; a whispered prayer unfolded. She reached for it—then stopped.
That’s enough for now, she decided. It is enough . . . Now, I’ll just listen
to music and rest.
Opening her carry-on bag she pulled out her headphones, then
tapped the music icon on her phone and scrolled through playlists until
she found what she was looking for: Prelude to a Dream—the eleventh
song. Dreaming her way through the last minutes of the long journey
was a delicious thought. She smiled to herself, then leaned back and
closed her eyes.
Ah, waves . . . I love the music of waves . . . My only prayer is to
hear the sound of your footsteps—whoever you are. To walk the long,
winding road of endless love—moonlight everywhere . . . I love new
paths, dancing my way to the edge of the world . . . I am always safe. I
love to love . . . I love being loved just as I am.
Temma gently shook her shoulder. “Wake up, K. We just landed and
we have to get off first. They’re going to hold the other passengers back
until Binnie gives them the go-ahead, but we need to move quickly.
Okay?”
“Got it,” whispered K. “Where are The Four?”
“They’re already at the exit door waiting for us.”
“And the rest of them?”
“They’ll be right behind us—they’re not going to get off the plane
until we’re off. I’ve got both carry-on bags, so just grab your purse and
let’s go.”
The two women stood up and walked toward a group of flight attendants. As she walked by, K lightly touched each of their hands and
bowed to them. They smiled and wished her well. She thanked them
with her eyes.
