FIRST IMPRESSIONS
COUNT
Just like a job interview, arriving well-presented and on time goes a long way in
helping make a positive first impression..
Some successful renters may even
provide a“renting CV” or cover letter, with
information about themselves and their
renting background.
Providing printed copies of referee letters
from previous landlords, may also be of
help. Be prepared and ensure you
complete the pre-tenancy application form,
you can find this on the tenancy website.

PUBLIC HOUSING
If you can't afford or even find a private
rental, you may be able to live in a public
house or unit where the Government pays
part of the rent. These are houses that are
rented out by Kāinga Ora (used to be
Housing New Zealand) and other
Community Housing Providers.
You need to meet certain criteria to qualify
for public housing. If you apply, you may
have to wait for a while until a suitable
property becomes available. Head to
workandincome.govt.nz for more
information.
