Thanks to 3stepIT’s portfolio, we now have a well-functioning
process for the management of our IT equipment, both new
and what is to be returned. Through the asset tool, we get
a better overview and control over which units are in our
environment.

Our supply chain
Our community
Every business should use its purchasing power to
promote its environmental goals and this remains a high
priority for 3stepIT.
Supporting students during COVID-19
Our supply chain is primarily made up of three groups:
• Our own suppliers/vendors (inbound supply)
• Our trading customers (outbound supply)
• Our recycling partners
In particular, our customers and partners play an
important role in ensuring the responsible end-of-life
treatment of used devices. This includes both trading
customers who buy refurbished devices and recycling
partners that that support us to recycle the 2% of returned
devices that are beyond repair and cannot be refurbished
and resold.
We choose our trading partners carefully, prioritising
long-term relationships so we know where our
refurbished equipment ships. We conduct detailed
background checks of our customers to make sure they
meet our high standards on environmental and waste
management, anti-money laundering, bribery and
modern slavery. We repeat this check annually.
When selecting our recycling partners, we only choose
those with high environmental standards. The recycling
partners we use in Finland, Norway and Sweden are all
ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certified.
We are committed to:
• Ensuring devices that can no longer be reused are
recycled responsibly through professional partners.
• Only reselling devices to customer and partners with
responsible green policies and backgrounds we have
thoroughly checked.
• Ensuring each reseller is committed to anti-corruption
directives.
• Auditing our customers and partners regularly and
actively following up if we think they need to improve
their operations.
We only sell our refurbished devices to countries with
effective e-waste regulatory regimes. In 2020, we sold
100% of devices refurbished in Europe to European
destinations, reducing the energy consumption and CO2
emissions required for export. Devices refurbished in
Malaysia and Singapore also went to local traders.
In support of our communities, our teams in Finland
have been working closely with the Computers For All
campaign, ensuring children from low-income families
have access to computers so that they can continue
their schooling via distance learning. Endorsed by the
President of Finland, the campaign donates computers
decommissioned by companies to school children across
Finland.
We have been members of the campaign since 2015, but
during 2020, our involvement gained pace. The initiative
originally targeted students aged 15 years old and above,
as these pupils are no longer eligible for school computers
and in some cases were unable to continue their studies
as a result. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold,
many more children were required to learn from home, as
schools closed across Europe, so the campaign expanded
to include children of all ages.
When the campaign was launched, on 31st of March 2020,
the target was to raise 1,000 used laptops and 5,000 euros
in donations. When the Board of Education mapped out
the actual situation, the need for computers turned out to
be much greater, and by May, the campaign had secured
learning equipment for over 1,500 students6.
The chart below shows the devices sent by 3stepIT
between 2019 – 2020. The campaign continues in 2021.

3stepIT Finland and Microsoft worked together to
contribute skills and resources to the campaign, helping
children to keep learning despite their circumstances.
We donated laptops, securely wiped devices and provided
funding for the campaign.
The pandemic put pressure
on families to provide laptops
and desktop computers to
facilitate school lessons and
communication with teachers
and peers. Of course, not everyone
can afford this technology,
putting some children at a severe
disadvantage.
