the story
so far
Our story started over 25 years ago, when our
namesake Sylvia, mother-of-three and facing a
language barrier in a new country, found it near
impossible to find a leotard for her daughter. Having
enrolled her into gymnastics, Sylvia and her daughter
found the outfit options limited and uncomfortable,
lacking function and style. So… Sylvia took matters
into her own hands. After borrowing a sewing
machine and purchasing some bright yellow lycra,
the very first Sylvia P leotard was born.
Sylvia wasn’t just looking to create a unique outfit
that looked good though. She wanted her daughter to
feel good – to empower her, fill her full of confidence
and encourage her to dream big.
In the gym that next week, the leotard was all the
girls and mums could talk about. Where did it come
from? And more importantly, how could they get
their hands on one? That look, that feeling, is what
our business is built on today. Our spirit runs deep,
creating gymnastics wear that empowers athletes
everywhere.
Flashforward to today, we remain a truly iconic
family-affair with Sylvia and all three of her children
managing key departments of the company. We still
handcraft each and every garment in our state-ofthe-art manufacturing centre in Brisbane, Australia,
and we remain renowned for the same innovative,
fashion-forward approach that has been present
from the very beginning.
