1. NATIONAL LEAGUE SYSTEM REGULATIONS
DEFINITIONS
In the interpreta琀椀on of these Regula琀椀ons: any words and expressions, unless otherwise de昀椀ned herein, shall
be words and expressions as de昀椀ned as follows:“The Associa琀椀on”
means The Football Associa琀椀on Limited.
“Club”
means a football club for the 琀椀me being in a League in membership of the NLS or Feeder Leagues (as
applicable).
“Commi琀琀ee”
in these Regula琀椀ons means the relevant Commi琀琀ee appointed by the Associa琀椀on.
“Compe琀椀琀椀on”
in these Regula琀椀ons means a League in the NLS.
“Condi琀椀onal Licence”
means a Licence with condi琀椀ons a琀琀ached to be met by a Club within a period determined by the
Compe琀椀琀椀on in which the Club holding the Licence is allocated by the Commi琀琀ee. Such period is not to
exceed 1 March in the Membership Year to which the Licence relates. Save in excep琀椀onal circumstances a
Condi琀椀onal Licence cannot be granted to a Club for successive Membership Years in respect of the same
Criterion.
“Criteria”
means the Criteria for par琀椀cipa琀椀on in Play O昀昀 Matches and Inter-Step Play O昀昀 Matches as set out in
regula琀椀on 9 of these Regula琀椀ons.
“Feeder Leagues”
means Regional NLS Feeder Leagues from where a Club can enter the NLS.
“Inter-Step Play O昀昀 Match(es)”
means matches played between Clubs at Step 4 and Step 5 who 昀椀nish in an Inter-Step Play O昀昀 Posi琀椀on.
“Inter-Step Play O昀昀 Posi琀椀on”
means the posi琀椀on of a Club at the end of each Playing Season which Is provided for in Regula琀椀on 5.2 and
facilitated by Standardised Rule 12 as qualifying the Club to take part in an Inter-Step Play O昀昀 Match to
qualify for promo琀椀on to Step 4 (in respect of the Club in Step 5 in the current Playing Season) or retain its
posi琀椀on in Step 4 (in respect of the Club in the Step4 in the current Playing Season) for the next Playing
Season.
“League”
means any compe琀椀琀椀on sanc琀椀oned by The Associa琀椀on and/or an A昀케liated Associa琀椀on in membership of the
NLS or Feeder Leagues (as applicable).
“Licence”
means an annual licence required to be held by a Club to be a member of a Compe琀椀琀椀on that may be either
an Uncondi琀椀onal Licence or Condi琀椀onal Licence.
“NLS”
means the Na琀椀onal League System of compe琀椀琀椀ons controlled by The Associa琀椀on where promo琀椀on and
relega琀椀on links exist between par琀椀cipa琀椀ng Leagues.
“Playing Season”
means the period between the date on which the 昀椀rst compe琀椀琀椀ve 昀椀xture in the League is played each year
un琀椀l the date on which the last compe琀椀琀椀ve 昀椀xture in the League is played. For Clubs par琀椀cipa琀椀ng in Play O昀昀
Matches this does include the period when Play O昀昀 Matches are played.
“Play O昀昀 Match(es)”
means matches played between Clubs in a Play O昀昀 Posi琀椀on on a format to be determined by each League
provided that the format is the same across each Step.
“Play O昀昀 Posi琀椀on”
means the posi琀椀on of a Club at the end of each Playing Season which is provided for in Standardised Rule 12
as qualifying the Club to take part in a Play O昀昀 Match to qualify for promo琀椀on to the next Step for the next
Playing Season.
“Regular Season”
means the period between the date on which the 昀椀rst compe琀椀琀椀ve 昀椀xture in the League is played each year
and the date on which the last compe琀椀琀椀ve 昀椀xture in the League is played, excluding Play O昀昀 Matches.
