Lifelong pain isn’t gain
I’m 57 years old and never in pain. In spite of the fact that back ailments,
headaches, and pains in stomach, knees, neck and shoulders are regrettably
close to normal, once you’ve passed forty. Sadly, it has also become normal
to accept pain as something you “just have to live with”. Both due to the fact
that so many say that, and because doctors often claim, “that’s normal at
your age”.
Rubbish. If a stone gets into my shoe when I’m taking a walk, the walk
obviously becomes more pleasant if I stop and shake it out. My point is: Don’t
just accept pain and discomfort. There’s no reason why you should. And I’m
not referring to medicine, for even though medicine can remove the symptom,
it doesn’t always remove the cause of your pain.
On the contrary, it’s my experience that a great deal of the pain that
people experience daily are caused by wrong or insufficient movement and
a generally unhealthy lifestyle, and that can’t be removed with medicine. If
you are sick, you should of course not exclusively follow this book’s advice.
See your doctor, be examined and perhaps even get a second opinion. But
whether you are young or old, healthy or sick, you can use this book as your
coach, support and inspiration for a healthier lifestyle. After a few weeks,
you’ll find that it’s no longer you letting go of bad habits – but bad habits
losing their grip on you.
Mentality plays a big role
Alkaline LIVING is not just about food and exercise. It’s important to acknowledge that the body reflects your state of mind and that every physical symptom has roots in the mind. Stress, grief and fear make the body accumulate
acid, and accumulated acid creates pain. It’s therefore essential that you consider your entire lifestyle and are aware of what you think and feel. Is some
unresolved conflict bugging in the back of your mind, or do you carry around
experiences that bother you more than you’ve realised? In my experience, if
body and mind are balanced, you won’t get ill. And when you know and understand why you have pain or why you are obese, tired or sad, your motivation
to get rid of the cause increases at rocket speed. Suddenly it makes sense to
use the many practical and mental tools in this book, and then the alkaline
lifestyle will no longer be a cure but a continuous lifestyle that you wouldn’t
want to be without. That needs neither be strenuous or time-consuming. If you
are aware of your food, your exercise and your emotions, the transformation
will come all by itself.
