Chapter 1: alkaline?
What is
alkaline?
Alkaline may seem a strange, alien word. Even if we abbreviate it, we still
have to ask: What’s it all about, alkaline? But seriously, if you want to be
happy, comfortable and full of energy, as well as healthy, slim and aging without getting sick, then it’s a word well worth understanding. Alkaline relates to
basicity and has to do with eating and living in a way that keeps your body
and its cellular tissue in balance and free of acid. The pay-off is that you in
every way become the healthiest, happiest and most beautiful person, you
can be, and that you are full of energy, feel younger and sleep like a log.
In this book, I’ll introduce you to my concept Alkaline Living, which organises food, exercise and daily life so it becomes less acidic and more alkaline.
Because if your average day is like other people’s, you are way too acidic.
Too much acid in the body affects everything from bones, muscles and joints
to brain and organs. It affects blood pressure, mood, stress level, skin, energy
and digestion. And just as too much acid weakens your immune system and
creates inflammation in the body, an acidic body also increases the risk
of infections and lifestyle diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, circulatory illnesses and in the worst case scenario, cancer.
If, however, you keep your body slightly alkaline, you will be giving your
cells the best living conditions, and therefore an alkaline lifestyle will affect
your life positively in countless ways. From the way you eat, think, feel and
stress to the way you move and breathe.
