JOHN BARNSTAPLE
PACHYRHINOSAURUS
- x36-
John Barnstaple Pachyrhinosaurus loved thinking about intangibles: words, art, and music. Things that are so incredibly meaningful, yet
have no seeming direct impact on our survival. So why the focus and time spent on such things? Because it is how we connect with
others. That, he thought, is why we are all here: to connect with others so we can better know ourselves (and to become a richer self in
the process).
“Only that which is the other gives us fully unto ourselves, — Sri Yogananda.
“I am that I am” — Exodus 3:14.
“Now that we know who you are, I know who I am. I am not a mistake” — Elijah Price.
But, John wondered, if it is all about connecting, what do we leave behind in the exchange? What is our legacy, be it from a relationship,
a job, a life? Tangibles will all turn back to dust at some point; nothing lasts forever. Almost nothing, anyway. Energy lasts. It might
transform, but it is never destroyed. So, John chooses his legacy to be the juiciest energy he can possibly put out there. And he loves
doing it through music. Watching people smile, dance, and sing is watching emotions and connections in action. He knows that, even
after he has left the building, the experience and joy will be remembered and, hopefully, passed forward. And that is the best legacy of all.
