Coaching System
Website www.coachbowls.org
The Coach Bowls Coaching System is the only coaching scheme that is supported by Bowls England, EIBA Ltd,
British Crown Green Bowling Association and ESMBA, whilst still recognising previous bowls coaching
accreditations as part of the general membership scheme.
All coaches should become members of the Coach Bowls Ltd membership package which includes a
comprehensive insurance scheme, reduction in costs of eligible courses and modules through bursaries, regular
updates and communications, access to the Coach Bowls Recognition Scheme and eligibility for National
Awards.
The Level One Award in Coaching Bowls was launched in September 2012. This is a nationally recognised
qualification for coaches working with beginners and allows coaches to independently deliver sessions as well
as coaching within a club environment.
The Level Two Certificate in Coaching Bowls was launched in April 2012. It is a nationally recognised
qualification for those coaches who are working towards developing the performance of bowlers within a
competitive environment.
The Level Three Certificate in Coaching Sport (Bowls) was launched in 2018. It is a nationally recognised
qualification for those coaches who are working at the performance level of the sport.
The 'Supporting Inclusion - Including Disabled People in Sport' is a 3 hour module that covers how club
volunteers and coaches can make the activities and the environment more inclusive to all bowlers, regardless
of disability, age, mobility and so on.
There is also a 4 hour ‘Safeguarding in Bowls - Time to Listen' module available for all Club Welfare
Officers. This is a vital module for all clubs to ensure that their environment if suitable for children and
vulnerable adults.
Alongside this there are two basic Safeguarding courses. The 3 hour 'Adult Safeguarding in Bowls'
module that covers how a club can be more aware of safeguarding issues of all adult club members. The
2 hours ‘Basic Safeguarding Children and Young People’ which covers how a club can be more aware
of safeguarding issues of all club members under the age of 18. These are delivered in an online format
and can be delivered in a ‘traditional face to face’ format.
The Coach Bowls Activator module is in 2 parts and is for club volunteers rather than coaches. A 2 hour
theory session delivered online which covers the basics on creating a welcoming, open environment for
new club members and a 2 hour practical session to help club volunteers to support their clubs to deliver
successful open days, taster sessions and support their coaches. These can be delivered separately or in
conjunction with each other and are focussed on helping clubs to recruit and retain members.
Coach Bowls also helps counties to run skills days and training opportunities for players and coaches
locally via the County Coaching Coordinator network.
There is a Coach Education Advisory group in place which supports the development, implementation and
review process for all technical content for all courses. These run alongside the group of County Coaching
Coordinators who are tasked with local communication. It is their role to reflect the views and needs of the
local coaches.
All courses and modules can be booked to run in clubs where there is demand. Booking forms can be
requested from the Coach Bowls office office@coachbowls.org or 07458 30149
