FUNDAMENTO TEÓRICO DEL PROGRAMA LIDERAZGO PARA UNA EDUCACIÓN INTEGRAL / SEGUNDA PARTE
ions, values, and other personal qualities that determine a person9s
ability to socialize well and to engage in professional and/or further
learning activities. In other words, core knowledge is formed that will
be supplemented with the ability to use this knowledge, with values
and skills that Ukrainian school leavers will need in their professional
and personal life9 (Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 2016).
What no one could imagine back then was that what seemed the beginning of a clear path to peace and development, would be diverted by
the barrel of a gun. This only underlines the importance of value-based
education for all. As Maria Montessori so famously put it, it is the task
of politicians to avert war, but it is the task of educators to create peace.
Education and peace are intertwined realities, which have to be addressed together. Educating is unworthy if it is not aimed at the development of peaceful, committed people.
SUMMING UP THE CONTEXT
Integral education is the path to personal development, but it is also
the only path to lasting peace.
So here we are, certain that uncertainty is the norm. But this turmoil creates possibilities for learning and may help guide us into the future. That
is the fate of an educator: being ever optimistic, looking into the future
with wonder, on the path of personal and societal development, looking
for ways to educate better and better.
A 8whole9 person, one who has developed his/her cognitive dimension but who has also developed his/her corporal, affective-emotional,
aesthetic-artistic, social, civic and ethical-moral or spiritual dimension, is a person more available to relate to 8the other9. A person that
has a certain level of integral personal development, feels more secure,
more capable and is therefore more available to meet the other, even
that other who is very different or who seems threatening. War is born
of fear and fear is fought with trust. But only he who feels whole, capable, is available to trust.
For all these reasons, if it was with enthusiasm that we started the WCD
project in 2019, it is with redoubled commitment that we now share the
results, lessons learnt and thoughts. Integral education is the path to personal development, but it is also the only path to lasting peace.
