Of our freight emissions, 63% come
from the couriers that deliver our
paint to customers and 30% is the
shipping of the base paint from
Germany.
Our remaining Scope 3 emissions
result from the use of some ‘everyday’
plastics and what is associated with
packaging generally.
We only use recyclable cardboard, tin
and glass, or compostable formers
and our tapes are reinforced paper.
We offer a range of eco alternatives
to the plastic products used to aid
painting. As only 8% of recyclable
waste is actually recycled we are
mindful to use materials for which
there is the greatest availability
of recycling facilities – aluminium
being an example, or that can be
composted.
We don’t obsess about packaging
and tools being the substance of
our sustainability claims because
it is the product, ie the paint, that
really matters. By being conscious
of the environmental impact of
the energy and resources we use
from the outset, we have been able
to ‘contain’ our carbon footprint,
principally through choosing to
source fossil free wall paints from
AURO and renewable energy from
Ecotricity.
The paint industry is frustratingly unregulated and this NEEDS to change
It is not mandatory to declare the ingredients in paint and we know of
few companies declaring their Scope 1, 2 and 3 Carbon Emissions, but
even then they are hard for the customer to compare unless they are
expressed as a per/litre figure. The customer needs more information to
make informed choices!
