Scopes 1 and 2
The energy we use
Our highest energy demand is for heating – keeping our staff, our paint
and our Founders warm! Added to this is the power required to run all our
equipment.
These demands are currently met with fossil fuels, but also with renewable
electricity as can be seen in our Scope 2 figures.
Where our energy comes from
All the generated power we use comes from renewable sources, either
generated on site with solar panels or bought in from Ecotricity.
Ecotricity is the oldest renewable electricity provider in the UK and we are
one of the their long standing customers. They continually invest profits
into new energy generation in the form of wind turbines, solar farms and
biogas mills.
Scope 3
Unlike many paint manufacturers, the Scope 3 emissions arising from the
production of our base paint is carbon neutral (remember this is where
98% of AKZO Nobel’s emissions arise!). This is because AURO have already
accounted for the low level of emissions that are produced and the factory
is verified carbon neutral. The carbon footprint of the manufacturing of the
base paint is minimal due to a ‘gentle chemistry’ method of production
and the reliance on natural ingredients.
Much of our impact comes from freight (38%) – how we get the base
paint to us and how we get coloured paint to our customers.
