Rewriting this story for our time
Cooking not ‘Cracking’
The processing is more akin to
cooking than ‘cracking’ and the
energy intensive and hugely
complicated supply chain
needed for acrylic binders is not
required. We take natural raw
materials which are responsibly
sourced to create a fully opaque
base coat in which the natural
earth and mineral pigments are
suspended. The resulting wall
paint has a richness of hue and a
beautiful finish while the natural
ingredients used means that it
is actually compostable when no
longer needed, as they can all be
recognised by organisms in the soil
and water that are able to break
them down.
Together with AURO, we avoid
working destructively. Our
partnership is founded on working
with this intent while recognising
that we are on a journey of
improvement.
Gentle chemistry is the future
This is why 20 % of the factory’s
workforce are a team of gentle
chemists. To our knowledge no
other company of our size makes
their own emulsion binder. We
have work to do with our eggshell
and gloss paints as they still rely on
a bio-based binder called Decovery
which although using pine resin
also contains some acrylic.
Nevertheless, we believe our own
formulation based on this binder
has created wood paints with the
lowest VOC levels of any on the
market.
We are excited to be part of this
gentle chemistry revolution. Our
two companies find themselves at
the vanguard of creating a more
sustainable future. The application
of these gentle chemistry
techniques outside of the paint
industry is potentially endless and
might just change the world!
Put simply, this is business not as usual
