Suffolk Coastal Port Health Authority
As one of the UK9s biggest port health authorities operating from Britain9s busiest
container port, Sufolk Coastal Port Health Authority (SCPHA) takes a leading industry
role through constant dialogue, liaison and representation with various organisations.
This includes:

Food Standards Agency (FSA)

Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA)

Marine Management Organisation (MMO)

British International Freight Association (BIFA)
SCPHA is also engaged with several Brexit and government initiatives, such as the
DEFRA Business Readiness Forum and 2025 UK Border Strategy, and hosts the quarterly
Port Health Stakeholder Forum to unite the logistics community for insight into port
health. This is in addition to being a founding member of the Major Ports Forum.
Corporate Health and Safety
The Corporate Health and Safety Team consults with Unison as a recognised trade union.
The Health and Safety Manager represents the Council at six-weekly meetings with the
other local authority health and safety managers across Sufolk.
A member of the Corporate Health and Safety Team attends the Eastern Region
Corporate Health and Safety Advisors Group.
Corporate Health and Safety Team members attend two local health and safety
networking group meetings, the Sufolk and North Essex Occupational Safety Group and
the Waveney Safety and Environment Group, which are groups comprised of private and
public sector health and safety professionals.
Corporate Health and Safety Team individuals are members of the Institute of
Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
(CIEH) or both.
IOSH and CIEH both provide learning and networking opportunities along with
professional publications.
