East Suffolk Council Climate Action Framework - Paper - Page 10
5. What is the purpose of this climate action framework?
The purpose of this climate action framework is to give an overview of:
What we've done: Provide an overview of East Suffolk Council's response to the climate emergency so far.
What we're doing: Highlight the 100 projects, plans and policies that make up our environment programme.
What we're going to do: Map the way forward on reaching net zero plus climate change mitigation and adaptation.
What is the scope of this framework?
This document is focussed on East Suffolk Council's work addressing the climate emergency. This means that it doesn't include the full
range of our wider environment work protecting and restoring nature, but recognises that this work plays a crucial role in addressing the
climate emergency, such as by capturing and storing carbon and reducing flood risk. The scope is:
a. Actions that are being delivered that make a positive, measurable difference to addressing climate change, i.e. reducing CO2e
emissions.
b. Measures that are being delivered to reduce the the footprint of East Suffolk Council's assets and services.
c. Work that is being delivered to enable communities, businesses and other organisations in Suffolk to decarbonise.
Measures required to adapt to the effects of climate change are also included but are not the focus of this phase of the framework.
Who is this framework for?
This framework is is intended for anybody who lives, works or visits East Suffolk that is interested in understanding our response
to the climate emergency. It is also being used as an internal review and planning tool for East Suffolk officers.
East Suffolk Council is working with a range of community, public and private organisations in the delivery of our environment
programme projects, such as the Greenprint Forum. They will continue to be engaged and kept
involved as this framework develops.
