Be琀琀er, We琀琀er Fens was the feasibility and design project for the Peatland Progress project. This is the next stage of the
Great Fen, a landscape scale partnership project led by BCN Wildlife Trust. The objec}ve is to protect and link Holme Fen
and Woodwalton Fen Na}onal Nature Reserves. The Peatland progress will provide a 昀椀nal stepping stone so there is a
pathway between the two NNR9s and will deliver outcomes for climate change adapta}on, habitat crea}on, reduced soil
erosion from fenland blow, reduced nutrient inputs with change to extensive grazing. Addi}onally the project will also be
demonstra}ng trials of a new system of land management—paludiculture (wet farming).
Outputs:
Feasibility studies and designs for new wetland habitat crea}on that will be delivered between 2023 and 2026 as part of
the Peatland Progress project
Outcomes:
Contributed to successful bid for Na}onal Heritage Lo琀琀ery Fund second stage, an £8 million Heritage Horizons Grant for
the next stage of the Peatland Progress project
