Bertarelli Foundation
This marine science programme is funded by the
Bertarelli Foundation, which has supported science
and conservation in the Indian Ocean region for over
a decade. The Foundation was founded in 1998 in
memory of Fabio Bertarelli, the father of Ernesto and
Dona. Today, the Foundation is active in those fields that
have an historic significance to the family, such as life
sciences, marine science and conservation, education
and sport. The Foundation’s cutting edge marine science
programme supports vital research in the Indian Ocean.

ZSL manages the marine science programme on
behalf of the Bertarelli Foundation. Founded in 1826,
ZSL is an international conservation charity, driven by
science, working to restore wildlife in the UK and around
the world; by protecting critical species, restoring
ecosystems, helping people and wildlife live together
and inspiring support for nature. Through our leading
conservation zoos, London and Whipsnade, we bring
people closer to nature and use our expertise to protect
wildlife today, while inspiring a lifelong love of animals
in the conservationists of tomorrow.
