BOAS Surgery
BOAS SURGERY
Approved for 9.5 CVE Credits by VCI
BOAS is a complex, congenital multi-level airway disorder that has a massive impact on animal welfare. Due
to the popularity of brachycephalic breeds, we have witnessed an explosion in their ownership, an increased
prevalence of the condition and patients presented earlier and with more severe manifestations of the
condition.
Assessment, surgical management and expected outcomes will be
discussed in detail alongside hands-on practical sessions. Pre-operative
and post-operative care will be highlighted to decrease surgical
complications and improve outcomes.
What you’ll learn:
• Recognition of the signs BOAS and impact on other body systems
• Functional grading and pre-operative assessment
• Surgical techniques – rhinoplasty, soft palate resection and saccule
resection
• Post-operative management
• Managing complications including tracheostomy placement and
care
• Expected outcome

the practical component
especially was so well
arranged that it added such
a vital aspect to the day that
would wouldn’t get with a lot
other cpd courses.”
