DELOREAN DMC-12 (BACK TO THE FUTURE, 1985)
THE DELOREAN WAS SOMETHING OF AN UNDERDOG WHEN IT FIRST
CAME TO MARKET. ITS FUTURISTIC STAINLESS-STEEL BODY AND
GULL-WING DOORS WERE DEFINITELY ATTENTION-GRABBING BUT
DIDN’T TRANSLATE INTO MASS APPEAL. SALES STRUGGLED, AND THE
CAR WAS IN DANGER OF BEING FORGOTTEN ALTOGETHER. THAT WAS
UNTIL BACK TO THE FUTURE WAS RELEASED. THE DELOREAN’S
TRANSFORMATION INTO A TIME MACHINE, COMPLETE WITH FLUX
CAPACITOR - GAVE THE CAR A PERMENANT PLACE IN POP CULTURE
HISTORY. TODAY, IT’S PRETTY MUCH IMPOSSIBLE TO THINK OF THE
DELOREAN WITHOUT IMAGINING MARTY MCFLY SPEEDING THROUGH
TIME.
ASTON MARTIN DB5 (JAMES BOND)
IF THERE’S ONE CAR THAT IS QUITE LITERALLY THE DEFINITION OF
COOL, IT’S THE ASTON MARTIN DB5. IT MADE ITS ON-SCREEN DEBUT
IN GOLDFINGER (1964), AND, FROM THIS POINT ON, THE DB5 BECAME
FOREVER LINKED TO JAMES BOND.
FITTED WITH GADGETS LIKE AN EJECTOR SEAT AND MACHINE GUNS,
IT REPRESENTED THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF STYLE AND
SUBSTANCE. DECADES LATER, THE DB5 REMAINS AS ICONIC AS 007
HIMSELF.
