Capstone: Culminating Experiences
Students' middle and upper school experiences culminate with Capstone programs rooted in inquiry,
collaboration, and deepening community connections. These experiences provide opportunities for students to
reflect on their learning, synthesize their work, and transfer their understanding to new contexts.
“The most valuable lesson I learned was about microplastics and how they
negatively afect marine life. We have to do a beter job of recycling and
minimizing trash because it ends up in the ocean and takes forever to break down.”

Perspectives
Senior Capstone
The Senior Capstone Program empowers students to pursue in-depth,
self-directed exploration and learning under the guidance of professionals
in the community. The Senior Capstone Program sends seniors out into
the world for three weeks in May, where they share and expand on their
learning, forging strong connections between what they have learned at
Field and the wider world. Students focus on a subject they wish to study
in college or explore a topic of personal interest.
The Senior Capstone experience culminates with a showcase in which
seniors share their experiences and reflections on the ways their
Capstones honored, extended, and challenged their learning over the
course of their upper school journey.
“My Senior Capstone internship with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Ocean AcidiÞcation
Program reaormed my desire to work in a biology/chemistry-related research position. I gained a greater appreciation
of the network-oriented and collaborative nature of the scientiÞc community. The Senior Capstone Program continued
to build on my knowledge, skills, and understanding of science and research Þrst developed at Field.”
