Like traditional casting, incorrect application or care can lead to
serious skin integrity issues. For Exos® there are 4 main things to
consider:
FITTING TIPS
PRIOR TO HEATING
Release Boa® and reduce tension on cable. Open the brace up a
little to make fitting the heated Exos® easier.

For safety the Exos® oven has a maximum
temperature of 100°C and the activation
temperature is 90°C. Heating time varies
depending on the volume of the brace and is
generally between 3-7 minutes. The brace is
ready when it feels soft like neoprene and the
brace can be folded in half.

ENTLY MOULD AND ADJUST FOR A
COMFORTABLE FIT
It is important to mould well into palmar area.
Apply even pressure when moulding the Exos®
brace (as you would a cast) and take up some of
the slack of the Boa® cable.

DRYING
The brace can get wet but the skin can’t stay wet. The brace needs
to be slightly loosened and a flow of cool air passed through to dry
the skin. Drying is compulsory following swimming but may also be
required for sweating in humid environments.

THERAPY
MOULDING
The Boa® takes care of the body of the brace but the clinician needs
to mould the distal end until the brace is rigid again.

VASCULAR
CIRCUMFERENCE TENSION
Be careful not to fit the brace too tight. Traditional casting tape isn’t
applied under tension. The brace should match the shape of the
limb, not compress it.
The measurement is taken around the distal
palmar crease with fingers spread apart.
EXOS® OVEN
ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR EXOS® BRACING SYSTEM
The Exos® oven is intended to be used to heat the Exos®
upper and lower extremity products.
CPM
SIZING
If the brace is too small, the edges will not close. If the brace is too
large, the Boa® will not provide sufficient tension to immobilise.

EXERCISE &
RECOVERY
Too much pressure applied by this cable (or by
applying pressure during the moulding process)
could cause the softened Exos® brace to have
ridges. This can cause specific points of pressure.
