Château de Birot is a 17th-century estate
whose vineyards are perched on a high
plateau, looking down on the Garonne
river and across to famous Sauternes.
Earlier this year, Club members
helped Birot’s new owners clear an
overcrowded cellar by taking their
2007 (at a low, low price). Enthusiastic
reviews rolled in: “I love older wine
and this was a delight” ... “everything
you’d expect from a good Bordeaux”.
Jean-Marc was recently offered 300
cases of the estate’s 2012, again with a
hefty saving ... passed entirely on to you.
It’s made from succulent Merlot with
dashes of Cabernet Sauvignon and
Cabernet Franc. Russet colour, earthy
aromas with hedgerow fruit flavours,
spice and mature, savoury notes. So
smooth, elegant and complex.
