ROTTNEST ITINERARIES
ISLAND EXPLORER
10AM // WADJEMUP MUSEUM
The history of Rottnest dates
back much further than Willem
de Vlamingh’s visit in 1696. For
thousands of years, Wadjemup has
been of great spiritual importance
to the area’s Aboriginal people.
Discover the evolution of the
island and reflect on its purpose
as a place of incarceration for
Aboriginal men and boys following
colonial settlement.
11AM // CULTURAL TOUR
Deepen your understanding of
Wadjemup’s past and present
through Go Cultural Aboriginal
Tours and Experiences. Take part
in traditional sand and smoke
ceremonies, listen to ancient
Dreamtime stories, and learn about
the traditional song and language
of Noongar people.
Note: Check for running tour dates.
Requests for other days may involve
private rates.
1PM // CAPTAIN HUSSEY TRAIN
After a quick lunch in the main
settlement, climb aboard the
Captain Hussey Train for an
enjoyable, scenic and informative
journey through the island’s south
side. Departing from the station in
the main settlement, the 64-seat
train passes iconic and historical
landmarks on Rottnest Island.
2PM // OLIVER HILL
Hop off the train at Oliver Hill for
the hourly Oliver Hill Gun & Tunnel
tour (last tour at 2pm), taking you
through Rottnest’s role in WWII.
Knowledgeable guides are on hand
to lead you through the stories of the
restored 9.2-inch guns and maze of
underground tunnels on the island.
6PM // DINNER
Load up on classic Italian fare in
a beautiful beachside setting at
Isola Bar e Cibo. Sophisticated
cocktails and gorgeous wines will
wash down fresh pasta dishes and
seafood cooked over a charcoal
fire grill as you look out over
shimmering Thomson Bay.
NAUTICAL NAVIGATOR
9AM // BAYS & BEACHES
Take a more relaxed approach to
the morning and check out one
of the 63 stunning beaches or 20
bays on the island. Which is the
best? You’ll get a different answer
from everyone, but some highlights
to start with are The Basin, Little
Parakeet Bay, Little Salmon Bay and
Geordie Bay.
Note: Hire bikes from Pedal &
Flipper for a full day of adventure.
12.30PM // SNORKEL & SAIL TOUR
Sail through the stunning
bays of Rottnest on a luxury
catamaran, plunging into cool,
aquamarine waters abundant
in marine life along the way
when taking a Snorkel & Sail
Tour with Charter 1.
4PM // COCKTAILS
Wind down with a bespoke
cocktail from Bayside Bar,
overlooking the white stretch of
shore and glimmering waters of
Thomson Bay. The mixologists
here know what they’re doing,
infusing spirits with their own
special botanical blends.
Take your drink alfresco to
Samphire’s Beach Club and feel
like you’re on the beach itself,
slouched on a low-slung lounge
set on soft sand, while under the
shade of a white umbrella.
6PM // DINNER
Gaze out at dusky pink skies
splashed across the horizon
at sunset from Pinky’s Beach
Club. Overlooking Pinky Beach,
renowned for the best evening
vistas, enjoy incredible local
seafood with a fusion of
flavours from both Asia and
Northern Italy.
In the distance from Pinky’s
Beach Club, you can spy the
towering Bathurst Lighthouse.
