FOR DERBY
The Roundhouse, DCG’s 昀氀agship
technical and professional
skills college, took centre stage
as Derby was announced as
the home of the Great British
Railways (GBR) headquarters.
By virtue of its rich rail heritage and notable reputation
for training skilled workers for the industry, the College
was chosen as the setting when Secretary of State for
Transport Mark Harper unveiled the city as the choice
for the new HQ.
GBR aims to revitalise the way the sector works to deliver
a simpler and better railway for all. It will orchestrate
greater collaboration and innovation to create a more
joined-up, ef昀椀cient and modern network which puts the
customer 昀椀rst.
The Minister was joined by a delegation from the
Department for Transport and key stakeholders from
the rail industry at the event. It was the culmination of
Derby’s convincing bid for the HQ – a bid for which DCG
was in the vanguard.
Derby College Group’s CEO Mandie Stravino OBE,
enthused: “We are delighted that Derby has been
selected as the HQ for Great British Railways. It
reaf昀椀rms Derby’s place at the heart of UK rail. And it is
a great choice as a considerable number of rail supply
businesses are located in Derby, alongside a signi昀椀cant
number of skilled manufacturing jobs.
