THIRTY | STRATEGIC PRIORITY TWO
REALISING POTENTIAL,
CELEBRATING DIVERSITY
DCG is taking major strides to improve social and economic
inclusivity for students with special educational needs
and disabilities (SEND) – helping them into ful昀椀lling
careers and developing their independence.
It delivers personalised SEND provision, giving
learners aspirational targets that lay the
foundations for successful and meaningful adult
lives.
DCG acknowledges and welcomes diversity,
believing that everyone – regardless of their
background or circumstances – has the capacity to
bene昀椀t from its distinctive style of education.
The Group has an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating for
the support it offers to high needs students and
this year its Inclusion Academy introduced further
specialist pathways to ensure that these learners
have a greater sense of control over their lives, can
speak up for themselves and are ready to make
more informed choices about their future.
New to the portfolio is the Aspire Pathway for young
people with the academic ability to succeed but
who need to address their anxieties, unleash their
resilience and strengthen their con昀椀dence before
advancing to positive destinations. Staff help them
create a tailor-made ‘mental wealth’ plan, with oneto-one tutoring and small group sessions.
Meanwhile, more Supported Internships are on offer
for SEND students with an Education, Health and
Care Plan. These entail a work placement overseen
by an expert job coach, alongside a personalised
study programme at College.
Supported Internships enable students to
build capabilities valued by employers and to
demonstrate their own worth in the workplace.
