NINETEEN | STRATEGIC PRIORITY ONE
A PET PROJECT
After being closed for two years, DCG’s Dog
Grooming Salon, based at Broom昀椀eld Hall, reopened
to the public – with an exciting new course offer
alongside its services to pet owners.
The salon’s manager, Olivia Jogela, originally trained
at DCG herself. She went on to become a dog
grooming assistant, then a stylist and then a salon
manager before her return to DCG with teaching
in her role.
The popular salon now provides an opportunity for
animal lovers to retrain to work in dog grooming,
thanks to the 18-week Level 2 Certi昀椀cate for Dog
Grooming Assistants which covers practical skills,
pet health, canine behaviour, handling and 昀椀rst aid.
Dog grooming is a very popular career
choice, so I knew having a quali昀椀cation
behind me would massively help
me to 昀椀nd a job more quickly.
My course at DCG gave me an amazing
head start in the career I wanted.”

TOP MARKS FOR SCHOOLS LIAISON
Over 70% of Derbyshire schools now have
inspirational ties with DCG as the Group’s outreach
work continues to expand.
DCG’s Schools Liaison team supports school pupils
to ready themselves for the next exciting stage of
their education.
With myriad education pathways now available to
young people, it is particularly important that they
have a full picture of all the options before making
informed choices about their next step.
The involvement of DCG’s Apprenticeship
Recruitment team therefore gives an extra
dimension to the guidance on offer.
Providing a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable
link to DCG, College staff deliver presentations in
assemblies, attend open evenings, run bespoke
sessions, conduct mock interviews and bring
groups of pupils to the College for campus tours.
These activities, available to special as well as
mainstream schools, not only provide pupils with a
taste of what it is like to study at the College but also
furnish teachers, parents and carers with expert
advice on the application process.
Getting the students to visualise
themselves in future years is
so valuable.”
