EIGHTEEN | STRATEGIC PRIORITY ONE
OPENING
DOORS
TO THE PUBLIC
Events in the glorious grounds of historic Broom昀椀eld
Hall – home to DCG’s renowned land-based
courses – are a particular magnet for visitors. One
heartwarming highlight of the calendar is Lambing
Sunday, when visitors can meet the new-born
lambs, tour the working farm and learn about all the
animals cared for by College staff and students. In
spring 2023, around 1,000 visitors had the chance to
see new life in the form of almost 100 lambs.
Other popular Broom昀椀eld attractions during the
year included a Rare Plant Fair and Winter Garden
Open Day when visitors were able to wander the
25 acres of educational Victorian gardens and
woodlands. With the help of students and a large
team of local volunteers, the gardens are being
returned to their former glory.
Students have the
chance to show
their pride in their
achievements and
progress at DCG –
thanks to special
events where the
public are welcomed
onto campus.
These occasions enable the wider
community to see the impact of
the Group’s distinctive approach
to education. Students not only
display their knowledge and skills but
also play a key behind-the-scenes
role in arranging the activities.
The Joseph Wright Centre also opens its doors for
impressive free exhibitions that showcase the work
of highly gifted students. The annual Art, Design
and Fashion Business displays presented the
attainments of more than 200 students over all four
昀氀oors. In addition, the Digital Academy Showcase
enabled Media, Esports and Games Development
students to spotlight projects ranging from 3D
Escape Rooms to animated short 昀椀lms.
Another event featured the innovation shown by
A-level students completing independent research
as part of the Extended Project Quali昀椀cation (EPQ).
More than 80 topics were represented, ranging from
children’s football events to public faith in the police.
