99% of all commercially available engine oils are made to conform with current API and ACEA
standards. These standards more or less dictate what the oil companies can do with their oils in terms
of the oil additives. This has to do with the fact that modern cars are designed to do an average of
18,000 miles between oil changes. Most of the readily available oils do a really good job of protecting
passenger car engines when commuting between A and B.
However, there is a big BUT...
The big BUT is that in a race engine with far more extreme cam profiles and harder valve springs than
a road car engine, in combination with that it is more or less always on full throttle at higher revs, the
oils that conform to the above API and ACEA standards are simply not up to the job. You may wonder
why that can possibly be. Well, the above standards are designed to make sure that the engine oil can
survive long service intervals and be as environmentally friendly as possible resulting in detergent
levels that are high and anti-wear additives that are kept low – exactly the opposite that you want in a
race oil.

engine oil that has been specifically engineered and
tested to deliver increased horsepower, better engine
and wear protection. Featuring the unique properties
of Pennsylvania grade oil compounded with synthetic
components and ZDDP (zinc) that provides excellent
film strength and reduced friction. The GP-1 range has
race proven pedigree as well as proven stability under
the most rigorous race conditions. The perfect choice
for classic competition cars running higher than normal
temperatures that require additional wear protection from
high Zinc content oil.

As with the XP range the HR range of oils do not meet any
standards. Although these oils can be used in racing (much
better than API and ACEA conformant oils and successfully
used by historic race teams) they are designed to cope with
service intervals up to 6,000 miles (synthetic). They have
a unique additive to combat the effect (internal engine
corrosion) of the ethanol content in normal pump fuels – an
ideal oil for high performance and classic cars not used on
a daily basis. The oils are also very sticky so even after long
periods of no use the important oil film will still be present
during the initial and crucial start up. 1 US Quart.

LUBRICANTS •
Driven Racing Oil’s range of products do not meet any standards
due to the fact that they are designed for racing. The fact that they
do not have to meet any standards means that special additives
that protects engines better, reduce oil temperatures, maintain
oil pressure lap after lap and even increase power are used. The
extreme thermal stability also means that you can run a thinner oil
as they do not break down as quickly as standard oils resulting in
less friction, better dissipation of heat and more power.
Designed for street high performance modern vehicles.
Perfect in track day cars where oil cooling might be an
issue. Proven to lower oil temperatures and to maintain
oil pressure. The DT40 was specially developed to be
an extremely viscosity and temperature stable oil and to
combat oil consumption and oil smoke, in water-cooled
Porsche 911s, caused by cylinder wear. Very popular within
the BMW M3 and M5 community instead of traditional
SAE10W-60 oils as the DT40 lowers oil temperatures and
makes the engines run much smoother. Designed for up
to 6,000 miles service intervals. However, if used for track
days we recommend changing it every 3,000 miles.
