A TRADITION of HANDMADE RUGS
Our beautiful hand-knotted rugs are the result of a lengthy work process that involves a great
many steps. The craftsmanship of making modern rugs takes place in small villages in India,
typically in the Uttar Pradesh region in northern India near the Ganges River. The raw material
is either wool or viscose, which is spun into gorgeous yarns used by the experienced rug
knotters. After knotting, the rugs are washed in a very simple and traditional method under
open skies with clean water and the use of traditional tools. The rugs are stretched on wooden
frames and often laid on roofs and large terraces to dry. It’s an incredibly beautiful sight to look
out over the small towns and see hundreds of carpeted roofs and terraces.
