INDUSTRIENS PENSIONSFORSIKRING A/S
ANNUAL REPORT 2021
Growth in all areas despite
uncertain times
GROWTH IN ALL AREAS DESPITE UNCERTAIN TIMES
The new property investments are in line with a
new sustainability strategy for Industriens
Pension’s property investments, meaning that, in
future, we will always have new-building certified
for sustainability up to at least DGNB Gold. This
will ensure focus on a good indoor climate, low
energy and heating consumption, etc.
Biogas and solar farms
Despite corona lockdowns, the supply crisis and
increasing inflation, 2021 was a good year for
investments. Record returns of more than DKK 33
bn. and a number of significant prizes bear
witness to a very satisfactory result for
Industriens Pension.
The Corona pandemic again cast a shadow across
society and life in Denmark at home and at work
for large parts of 2021.
However, neither the Covid-19 crisis nor other
threatening market trends such as increasing
inflation and the supply crisis could prevent an
outstanding year for the listed share market and
several unlisted classes of assets. Members of
Industriens Pension could enjoy an overall return
of DKK 33.5 bn. for 2021. This corresponds to a
return of 16.8% on the total portfolio and across
all age groups.
High return
The result is extremely satisfactory, and
independent statements show that Industriens
Pension delivered one of the absolute highest
returns in the sector in 2021, and over the long
term for most age groups.
One of the most important explanations for the
high return in 2021 is the exceptional year for
Industriens Pension's unlisted shares (private
equity), with a return of 66.1%.
Besides this, hedging of the inflation risk also made
a good contribution to the return. As a result,
Industriens Pension again benefitted from our
wide-risk-spread approach, with focus on many
different classes of assets, sectors and countries.
Moreover, listed share markets around the world
also had a good year, with many of the major
markets rising by 20%. This was due primarily to
good earnings growth in companies and not least
the continued relaxed economic and monetary
policy throughout the world. Neither increasing
Covid infection rates at the end of the year nor
increasing inflation could stifle the optimism.
Sustainable investments in property
A number of significant property projects impacted
2021. Together with the property company NREP
and Novo Holdings, Industriens Pension has
purchased part of Jernbanebyen, a future
sustainable urban area in Copenhagen that
comprises the final phase of the development of
southern and central Copenhagen. The area is now
to be developed as a healthy and, in part, car-free,
sustainable urban district.
In 2021, Industriens Pension also entered into an
agreement with 2L Projectudvikling to develop a
new sustainable urban area, Landskabsbyen, in
Egedal, North of Copenhagen. A total of 900
sustainable homes will be built over a number of
years.
In 2021, Industriens Pension’s focus on
sustainable investment was also visible through a
number of infrastructure investments. Via
infrastructure funds, we continued investments in
renewable energy infrastructure throughout the
world, and in Denmark we invested in the biogas
company Bigadan, for example, which has the
green transition as an integrated part of its
business model.
Besides this, Industriens Pension extended an
already historically large agreement on new solar
farms with Better Energy. The agreement means
that the partnership, which originally included 16
solar farms, will now be extended to 23 solar
farms in Denmark and Poland. When they are in
full operation. The 23 solar farms will supply green
electricity corresponding to the annual
consumption of about 880,000 Danes.
at the Kundeservice Awards 2021 presented across
sectors by the consultancy firm, Wilke.
Industriens Pension was also lauded as the best
digital pension company in 2021 by FinansWatch
and Wilke. The prize came because Industriens
Pension won first place in the assessments for
innovation skills and digital communication.
Finally, in 2021 Industriens Pension took first place
in the consultancy firm Loyalty Group’s annual
loyalty and satisfaction survey of Danish pension
savers: BrancheIndex Pension. According to the
survey, Industriens Pension is the most attractive
pension company with the most loyal customers.
Continuous focus on improvement
The past year has been noteworthy and erratic, and
the next few years will also demand constant
adjustments so that we always meet the
expectations and needs of our members and society.
Industriens Pension will continue to focus on
developing and improving the pension scheme.
Prizes for customer services, loyalty and
digital solutions
In 2021, member services were developed and
improved so that we always keep members up-todate about the pension scheme. Our digital
solutions on the website and on the Industriens
Pension app were also developed to keep selfservice solutions as user-friendly as possible.
Several studies in 2021 showed a high level of
satisfaction with these areas. Industriens Pension
won prizes for the best telephone customer
service and for being the best service organisation
