Go bold or go home: That’s the message Hollywood’s A-list
women are sending with their choices for red-carpet dressing
these days, high-end looks that are decidedly rooted in lingerie
dressing.
The biggest stars in the music, television and 昀椀lm industries
— and in social media, the undisputed driver of consumer
in昀氀uence — lately are embracing corsets, bra tops, briefsas-bottoms and more in their public appearances, a trend
that’s not only inspiring women to copy the looks, it’s also
in昀氀uencing fashion designers, who are infusing corsets and
other underpinning details into their ready-to-wear collections.
Maison Margiela’s latest haute-couture collection caused a
social media 昀椀restorm when it debuted in Paris in January. It
was celebrated for its daring sheer designs and corsets that
cinched many waists of the models who ambled down the
runway, emulating the Parisian women of the night favored
by legendary photographer Brassaï in the 1920s and ‘30s.
Equal parts romantic and highly sensual, these unapologetic
looks promise to in昀氀uence stylish women and style trends.
The ensuing months have proved Maison Margiela succeeded
nicely.
