ESG Report
From Our CEO

Recycling and Repurposing
CSAA recognizes that emissions from
paper use are likely to be added to our
reduction targets in the future, and we
are taking steps to build awareness of
and reduce our paper use. As a result of
our increased focus on digital distribution, as well as the increased demand
for digital materials driven by the shift to
remote work, we have reduced printed
marketing materials significantly since
2019. We also continue to reduce paper
usage associated with policyholder
communications, including efforts to
increase customer adoption of paperless communication. At the end of
2022, 30% of our policies were signed
up for paperless–up from 24.9% in 2021.
Our eWaste program manages
harmful effects of increased
electronics. We refurbish and recycle
our eWaste, which results in 243
tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions
avoided–equal to removing the
emissions from 53 cars for a full
year. We engage a vendor for proper
eWaste disposal, resulting in very
little going to the landfill.

Environmental
We realized significant impact
through creative use of other
materials. We repurposed softseating furniture and glass from
Colorado Springs to Walnut Creek
to furnish a new breakout area,
Social
Governance
a heads-down work area, and an
impromptu collaboration area.
We also donated 105 cubicles and
chairs, three refrigerators,
a microwave, and a coffee maker
from our Oklahoma City closure to
our subtenant for their extended use,
eliminating taking it to landfill.
Similarly, we re-instituted the
“chairity” event to make sure our
employees were safe and
comfortable when working remotely.
Employees received almost 400
chairs from our offices in Las Vegas,
Colorado Springs, Oklahoma City,
Mt. Laurel (New Jersey) and
Glendale (Arizona). In addition to
saving these chairs from landfill,
CSAA donated more than 20 tabletop
sit/stand workstations to nonprofit
organizations.
Lastly, we donated the remaining
group fitness equipment we
had in our offices to employees
and non-profit organizations.
